Assistance to general cargo TBC Progress

On Saturday 27 November 2021, during the night, the 176m TBC Progress, flying the Panama flag and transporting cereals, suffered propulsion damage 30 miles off the coast of Cap de La Hague (50). The weather conditions in the area were very bad (6 meter high waves and winds of more than 100km/h). The Abeille Liberté set sail early this morning to reach the site,

As the vessel continued to drift towards the Cap de la Hague, the Préfecture Maritime de la Manche et de la Mer du Nord issued a formal notice to the shipowner and activated the ORSEC maritime level 3 in the middle of the morning. As a precaution, a towing team was winched onto the vessel.

After several unsuccessful attempts to repair the vessel, the Maritime Prefect decided to take ex-officio action and to send a hoisting team onboard the TBC Progress. The Abeille Liberté then took the TBC Progress under tow in order to bring her safely to the port of Le Havre under the coordination of CROSS Jobourg.

The winching operations carried out by the French Navy teams and the towing operation carried out by the crew of the Abeille Liberté took place in very difficult conditions due to the weather in the area.

On Sunday 28 November, at around 4 pm, the convoy entered the port of Le Havre where the TBC Progress was able to moor in complete safety, while the Abeille immediately left for Cherbourg to resume its alert position in the coastal protection service.
